Yup’ik/English Language Delivery Models
Yup’ik Language Development (YLD) Model
• Primary-Yup’ik language and literacy instruction with ESL, oral speaking component
• Transition: a year of intensive English language instruction following primary with a period of Yup’ik language and literacy instruction
• Intermediate: instruction in English language and continued Yup'ik literacy component
• Junior and Senior High School: Instruction in English language and Yup'ik literacy component
Two-way (Dual) Immersion Model
• Elementary: a half day instruction in Yup’ik language and literacy and a half day of instruction in English language and literacy.

Graduation Requirements:
> 3 credits required + Alaska High School Graduation Qualifying Exam
> Credits may be Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Applied Math, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus
Adopted Math Materials:
* Yupik First Laguage and Dual Immersion Schools: Yugtun Saxon Math K-3 (translated into Yup’ik) and translated Harcourt Math K-3 supplements
* English Language Development Schools: Harcourt Math K-5
* All Schools: Glencoe Course 1, Course 2, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Advanced Mathematics, CORD Applied Mathematics
Two-Way Videoconferencing:
* Schools without a NCLB highly-qualified secondary math or secondary math-endorsed teacher utilize TWO-WAY VIDEOCONFERENCING with daily math classes broadcast live from Bethel and sometimes from village schools.
* A team of partner teachers exists for these classes where the teacher in Bethel provides lessons planning, delivers instruction, and supports the teacher via distance delivery.
* The teacher in the classroom provides instructional support, classroom management, and grading/record keeping.

Alaska Grade Level Expectations:
> The Alaska Math Performance Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) for Grades 3-10 outline the specific content students are expected to know and be able to do during annual standardized testing in April.
> These GLEs also exist as a roadmap of the math core instruction teachers are expected to teach during the school year.
