LKSD Counseling : Jobs
This page includes: where to find jobs, apprenticeships, internships, and summer programs; where to explore careers, and learn about yourself; and how to write essays, resumes, and interview. Many links have these topics all mixed together so this page is organized mostly alphabetically. However, resume related information is at the very bottom. Talking to people in your area or over the phone can simplify things. The Advice page contains information about asking for letters of recommendation, and other tips.

Military
- ASVAB
The ASVAB test is an aptitude test given by the US Armed Services. The military uses the test results to determine who qualifies for admittance to the military. However, just because a student takes this test does not mean they have any affiliation with the military. High schools typically use this tool as a career and interest inventory and profiler. The results give students an idea of which subject areas they are skilled in and compares that to multiple professions. It also helps students explore their interests as they relate to their specific skills and different occupations. The ASVAB is necessary to gain access to the FYI (Find Your Interests) survey. The Living on Your Own section provides a step-by-step guide to planning how much one can afford to spend, discovering where money goes, details how to make a budget, gives ideas of how to spend less, choosing the right bank, and offers suggestions of how to avoid credit cards and the whole cycle of uncontrolled spending.

Preparing a Resume
When applying for a job or additional schooling, creating a personal resume is an organized way to list your work experience, education, and skills so that you can share this information with others. A well-written resume is important in the job seeking experience. Here are some important tips that will help:
- You want the employer to want to see and hear more, not be bored with you on paper.
- Putting in the information that shows your qualifications for the job description will keep the employer’s attention. Sometimes this means putting your experiences first and other times the education section will come first.
- Selling yourself and your abilities is what a good resume can do for you by getting you in the door and in front of a potential employer.
