
Gladys Hall Jung
Gladys Hall Jung was born April 30, 1917 to Oscar Clyde and Anna Hall in St. Michael, Alaska. Later, her family moved to the Kuskokwim River, eventually settling in Bethel, where Gladys became the first high school graduate in 1935.
Education was important to Gladys. She graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1938, then student taught in Nunachuak and Tuluksak. After her marriage to Henry Jung, they taught together in the villages of Napaskiak, Kalskag, Kipnuk, Sleetmute and Napakiak.
Gladys and Henry retired from teaching in Napkiak, where they remined and opened Jung's Traiding Post. In the early 1970's they moved to Bethel, where Glady's home was open for a baked treat, tea and engaging conversation for all who dropped by to visit.
Gladys was knowledgeable, well-spoken and sensible woman whose charitable nature was demonstrated by her servie on various boards and committees, and in school and community events.
Gladys took pleasure in the small things in life-her extensive collection of owl figureines, the changing colors of the seasons, watching the river traffic, and enjoying the flowers, birch trees and birds that gathered in her yard.
