Professional Development
for
Librarians

Dear Librarians and Staff of LKSD:

When I was creating a section to provide resources for the professional development of the LKSD librarians, the first question I asked myself was, "What do we mean when we say "professional development?"  Professional development is the training that we recieve whenever we are given information on how to better do our jobs as librarians.  Professional development can happen almost anyplace at just about any time.   A semester-long course, a weekend conference, a two-hour video conference, or even just an informal meeting in the library are all places that the librarians and library aides of LKSD recieve professional development.

I built this portion of the LAFF grant webpage to provide links for the librarians and teachers of LKSD in order for them to explore and study librarian skills at their own pace as well as information for anyone who is interested in pursuing a degree in library science.  My hope is that even if you do not choose to pursue a school degree, that you will find information that will still be helpful in providing you with resources to increase your knowlege and understanding of library science.  As some librarians have shown an interest in learning HTML, I also chose to include access to a free online tutorial on learning HTML.  Please know that this is a very valuable skill for librarians to have and if you are interested, I highly encourage you to explore and see if there is anything that is useful for you.

As always, if you have questions on using any of these resources you can email me, call me at the LKSD media center, or I will be happy to give you extra support during my next visit to your school.

Sincerely,

                       Amelia Giacumo
