Imagine looking at the geography on the map of Alaska, gives you a distinguish aspect of the land, animals and the native people tribes, Also, known as the “The Last Frontier”, because the land was sold to the Europeans by the Russians in the late seventeenth century.
In the vast land of the state, my country is located southwestern on an island known as Nelson Island. Negtimiut is the name of my community which in Engligh translates to Nightmute. Negtemiut was named as a result of the hill point identity. Along the hillside, all the end points have identifying names. |

Estimating in the late 1800’s to the 1920’s, there was a man named Ciinuruk, who first builted a mud house, where the church stands today. People started migrating to the area and Ciinuruk became the founder of Negtemiut. Ciinuruk had an English name, which in question was Teddy Tulik, Teddy Fairbanks or it could be some other name.
Today, Nightmute has forty to fifty houses and populating in the three hundreds. There are businesses like City of Nightmute, two Traditional councils for Nightmute and education facility and the community hall for activities. |
