Academics Elder Speaking Every month (once a month on Thursday), we have the elders of Tununak come up to our school and talk with all students. During the elder speak the students are being split up into groups because back than when the elders used to live in sod houses, men and women were divided up into different houses. They would discuss some issues and what they should do to make the community or one more suitable. When elders come up to speak they are given topics of what to present to the students. The main topics for the students are survival, Yuuyaraq (Way of Life), understand who we are, and the most important respect. Reading Buddies Also once on a month on Thursday, there are reading buddies for all students in the school because we as a school want to increase interage activities and to help students with their fluency activites.
