Dear parents, students, and the entire LKSD learning community,

Happy spring! It’s hard to believe that we are already in the fourth quarter of the school year - time is certainly flying by quickly. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about changes to the LKSD COVID-19 protocols, recently updated and approved by the LKSD Board of Education, that will be effective on Monday, March 28th.

Beginning 3/28/22, LKSD will utilize the CDC COVID-19 Community Levels guidance for determining a base risk level/operational status of each school in the district. LKSD will ensure that each school is also following local ordinances, should they include more stringent mitigation strategies than the district’s. When an individual community is identified by YKHC as having widespread community transmission, the local school(s) will be moved to the high risk operational status until widespread community transmission of COVID-19 is resolved in that community. You can find information on the operational status of your community school on the LKSD webiste, or by clicking this link: COVID HUB.

A summary of mitigation measures for in-person learning and student activities can be found below. I highly encourage you to view the complete plan, found on the LKSD website, or accessible via this link: COVID HUB. The full plan includes additional updated information on student activities, return travel guidance, and guidance for COVID-positive students, close contacts, household positives, and the test-to-stay strategy.

One of the main changes in the district’s protocols involves masking. During periods of high risk, universal face masks will be required both in school and on LKSD buses, while during periods of low/medium risk, masking will be optional both in school and on LKSD buses. Please know that LKSD will continue to make masks available during periods of low/medium risk for students and staff opting to wear them. You can view additional risk-level guidance in the chart below or by viewing the complete plan.
