Professional Development Opportunities

Historically, LKSD has one of the highest teacher retention rates in Alaska. The District values experienced, well-trained teachers and invests significant resources in support of our staff. LKSD’s emphasis on professional development equates to quality education for students resulting in a strong sense of employee commitment.

LKSD Provides:

  • ●  10 professional development days as part of the standard contract year

  • ●  Highly refined induction and mentoring program for new teachers

  • ●  Annservice designed to promote professional growth additional five days for newto district teachers, and additional three days for second year teachers

  • ●  Financial support to cover tuition, books, and fees

  • ●  “For credit” courses each year available on a voluntary basis for all staff.

  • ●  Internal prioritization to fill administrative positions. After three years of

    successful teaching in LKSD, teachers may apply for the Educational Leadership program.
