ASB Members working together

The Advisory School Board Conference was held this week in Bethel. It was great to be back in person after hosting the meeting on Zoom for the past two years. Thank you to all participating advisory school board members and site administrators for a great two days of professional development and learning.

A.E. Dance GroupThank you to the Ayaprun Elitnaurvik dancers who performed during both days of the conference and to Josh Gill for helping to coordinate this.

Lon Garrison from the Association of Alaska School Boards and Jeannie Sleeper from JDO Law helped facilitate the first day of the training, which focused heavily on the roles and responsibilities of ASB members. The second day of training focused on LKSD programs and initiatives.

Sources of Strength student presentationMeghan Crow and staff from the social work department were on hand to provide training on Sources of Strength, and we heard an excellent presentation from students from Nightmute who have worked hard to implement the program in their school. Many thanks to the Nightmute students for their presentation - they did an outstanding job! Also, thank you to the students from KLA who assisted with the thankfulness campaign during the Sources of Strength presentation. During the second day of the conference, ASBs also heard from current Ready Academy students about their experience in the program. Thanks to Joel Thomas for coordinating this and to the students who participated in the presentation.

ASB Conference ParticipantsThe ASB Conference is a significant event that takes months of planning and preparation. Mary Noes is instrumental in this work, and we wouldn't be able to provide a successful conference without her help. Thank you, Mary, for all you do to support the LKSD Board of Education and our Advisory School Boards. Lastly, I want to thank the LKSD Board members who attended the conference. It was great to have you there!
