Dear Parents, students, and the entire LKSD learning community,
We are now in the final weeks of the school year for all LKSD schools and it’s certainly a busy time Our schools recently wrapped up spring assessments and student activities, and are now preparing for proms, graduations, and end-of-year celebrations. I encourage you to stay up to date on district news and events via the LKSD website, Facebook, and Instagram pages, and by accessing your local school’s social media page and website. There are a lot of fun events and celebrations happening around the district and I encourage and appreciate your participation!
Summer Programs for Students
LKSD will again offer a variety of programs and learning opportunities for students this summer. This includes programs for students in migrant education, the LKSD Summer Academies, the summer work program, and individual school-based summer learning programs geared toward literacy that align with provisions of the Alaska Reads Act. Please check the LKSD website and Facebook page, as well as your local school’s website for more detailed information.
Summer Construction Projects
LKSD has several major projects happening across the district. The following projects will see work continue this summer:

Bethel - KLA school addition in partnership with Yuut Elitnaurviat – scheduled for occupancy in the fall
- Bethel - Continued work on the Ayaprun Elitnaurvik new school build – scheduled for occupancy in July
- Newtok – The start of the Ayaprun School and teacher housing demolition
- Mertarvik – Phase two of the new school build will commence
- Napakiak – Phase two of the new school build will continue
New LKSD Superintendent
As previously announced, I will retire effective June 30th. The LKSD Board of Education has selected Andrew “Hannibal” Anderson to assume the role of LKSD superintendent beginning July 1, 2024. Mr. Anderson has numerous years of experience in education and is the former superintendent of the Lower Yukon School District. You can learn more about Mr. Anderson on the LKSD website.
It has been my sincere honor to serve the students, families, and communities of LKSD for 21 years and a privilege to be the LKSD superintendent for the past four years. I wish you well and as always, thank you for your continued support of LKSD!
