Last weekend we conducted the 2023 LKSD Science Fair.
We were excited to receive projects from Gladys Jung Elementary, Ayaprun Elitnaurvik, Bethel Regional High School, Tuntutuliak, Kwethluk, Atmautluak, Goodnews Bay and Nightmute.

It was wonderful to see so many students participating in the LKSD Science Fair this year. All of the young scientists did an amazing job of presenting their projects. The participating students also learned a lot from the visiting Seward Sea Life Center staff. They learned how to admit, evaluate, and monitor rescued ocean animals and identify what sea lions eat by observing their scat. They also became salmon in an ocean migration simulation and dissected squid in order to identify the parts that help them survive, grow, and reproduce in their environment.
Our 2023 1st place winners are:
Gladys Jung Elementary School, Bethel
Gladys Jung Elementary School, Bethel
Atmautluak
Kwethluk

Our top winners may advance to the Alaska Science & Engineering Fair in Anchorage provided they are eligible.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants! Thank you Whitney Spiehler, helpers, and judges for organizing and putting on such a great event. Science Rocks!
